Emotional Intelligence, Vitamin D and Insurance
Again, another short and sweet Friday Footnotes for you, as I am still in Cornwall with the family.
TRIBEathlon Podcast
Episode 8: Coming to ultra-running from journalism and fell walking, what Damian Hall has achieved in a relatively short time is beyond belief. Most recently he set a new Fastest Known Time (FKT) by running the 268 mile Pennine Way in a remarkable 61 hours and 34 minutes, so I wanted to better understand what it takes to run what seem like unachievable distances.
TED Talk I’ve Found Interesting
Psychologist Daniel Goleman, author of "Emotional Intelligence," asks us in his TED talk ‘Why aren’t we more compassionate’ more of the time.
Health Matters I’ve Been Thinking About
At this time of year I start taking Vitamin D supplements and this year I think there is a greater need than ever. Not only will I be seeing less daylight as a result of working from home, but there appears to be a link between people suffering more with COVID-19 and low Vitamin D levels.
If you want to know more about how Vitamin D can improve your health, this article does a good job of explaining it. Start now to help boost your immune system, improve your mood and keep you healthy over what could be a long winter!
What I’ve Been Reading
Getting into the world of triathlon can be a scary thing. I certainly found it that way; although there was no need as I couldn’t have found a more friendly group of people. So when I read Louise Minchin’s ‘Dare to Tri’ I could resonate with so much of her story. Even down to her competing in The Dambuster event at Rutland Water. It really is a rousing story of how the BBC Breakfast presenter transformed herself into an international athlete that I would highly recommend.

Finance Theme I’ve Been Considering
A quick question: Do you insure your car? I would hope that if you drive you do! I bet you insure your home, pets, holidays, and probably even your mobile. We insure these things to protect them from the worst. Insurance means that if our kitchen caught fire, we drop our phone in the toilet or if our faithful four-legged friend broke their tail, we wouldn’t be out of pocket.
If you take a moment to consider how much you are worth over your lifetime, you are most likely to be the most expensive asset that you own. For example, if you started earning £30,000 at age 20 and this only rose with inflation, by the time you retire, say at 65, you would have earned £2.5m! If you owned something worth £2.5m would you get it insured? So why are so many people reluctant to insure themselves.
On Thursday 12th November at 6pm we will be hosting an online client webinar on ‘Protecting your family’s financial future’ so if you, or anyone you know, would like to join us, please email [email protected].
